Professor Janaka Ruwanpura has served as the vice provost and associate vice president of research (international) at the University of Calgary, Canada, since 2013. He was the former executive chair of the Commission of International Initiatives of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU). He is a full professor, former Canada Research Chair in Project Management Systems, and a founding director of the Centre for Project Management within the Schulich School of Engineering.
With academic credentials from the University of Moratuwa, Arizona State University, and the University of Alberta, Prof. Ruwanpura has garnered numerous accolades and awards for teaching, research, graduate education, leadership, and internationalization, including recognition as one of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants in 2022. Under his visionary leadership, the University of Calgary has experienced transformative growth, receiving six excellence and innovation awards in internationalization.
Prof. Ruwanpura is a licensed professional engineer in Alberta (P.Eng.), a professional quantity surveyor in Canada (PQS). He is also honored as a member of the US National Academy of Construction (NAC) and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE), the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (FCSCE), and the Engineering Institute of Canada (FEIC).
